The STAR Program

The STAR program was developed to assist students in both their social and academic growth.

Personal Development

Often students may experience difficulty reaching their potential because they are struggling with self-esteem issues.  It is one objective of the teaching team to help students realize they have gifts and talents not yet recognized or fostered.  Every student that enters Conwell-Egan Catholic High School has special qualities to offer to the school community, but often they need help finding themselves and their way.

Academic Development

The students in the STAR program have the benefit of smaller class sizes and academic Enrichment period for which they receive credit.  Class size is usually under 20, which allows the student to receive the individual attention they often need to succeed.  The Enrichment period is a working tutoring session each day where the students can work in cooperative groups on assignments they have received throughout the day.  Each teacher involved in the STAR program teaches during this period.  The Enrichment period is also used by the Guidance Department, School Minister, Humanities Directors and the Christian Service Coordinator.

The STAR program follows the required freshman curriculum while striving to increase the level of academic performance from each student.
